Just heard another Artist sing Amie

Postby davelefeber » Fri Feb 18, 2011 3:54 pm

I was in a restaurant today and I heard a very popular contemporary artist sing Amie. I recognize his voice but I can't put a name on it ----Does anybody know? . It had a bluegrass feel to it with an accordian, banjo etc... Thanks

Was it Travis Tritt? He did it on randy scruggs' album a few years back.

NO it was not Travis , it was one of those artists you hear on the coffeehouse rock stations on Sirrius etc.... I'm sure Fuller is aware of it.

Some other artists who have covered Craig Fuller's "Amie" are:
Apple Kirby & Rounds, Hickory Hill, Lonestar, The Villains, Brian McComas, Randy Scruggs, Rusty Wier, and Wesley Willis.

The Wesley Willis version must be a joke...it's atrocious.

The Villains' isn't bad.

Hey prairiedogs,

I'll bet not many ever thought Counting Crows would cover a PPL tune. It just shows how immortal and far reaching Amie and PPL's music extends. I have a copy of that version live, CC performed it nigtly in their set on tour several years ago in addition to recording it. This tune has been called the epitome of country rock and as I mentioned awhile back, Keith Urban did a karaoke version in a Ca. bar the night before performing at Stagecoach Festival last year. I still hear it frequently on radio, stores, it's immortal, it's a story in itself. The largest Rock station in NY still lists the song on their most popular songs each year in a listener poll. The demo version had a yodel at the end, courtesy of George Ed Powell, really cool. The first part of the song was written in a park in Syracuse NY then finished in Waverly OH.

Vince Gill has said one of the coolest things he got to do in his career was sing Amie during his PPL years. He's done it in his solo shows as fans yell for it, but always acknowledges Craig Fuller and PPL.

All the best,Tom
