I no sooner mentioned on a recent thread how Amie finished in the top 400 songs of all time in fan balloting on the largest rock station in NY, when Amie strikes again !
The January 2008 issue of a national magazine, Acoustic Guitar magazine, shows the name Pure Prairie League on the top right corner of the cover along with a few other songs. Apparently the author picks some classic acoustical tunes and does an article on them.
Almost 40 years ago PPL started hitting magazine covers. They're still doing it today.
Somewhere, right now, this song is on the radio. What PPL and Craig Fuller created almost 40 years ago will not only continue on as long as music is played, it has earned a sacred spot in the history of music, a song that, no matter what music is in vogue in any given year, will find it's way to the airwaves. It's guaranteed that the name Pure Prairie League will still be uttered by DJ's who were not even born when the song was written.
It's a remarkable achievement when one considers the volume of music produced during the last 40 years, especially when you consider the fact that most major market radio stations would not even air country rock back in it's heyday in the 70's. Amie has been hailed as the "quintessential country rock tune", or " the anthem of country rock." PPL has been cited as one of the major reasons country rock broke into the national music mainstream in the 70's. As 2008 fast approaches , the PPL legacy still burns brightly, no signs of dimming with age. And as for Amie, well let's just say the gal is now flirting with immortality instead of Craig.
Here's the cover:
