A few PPL notes

Postby Tom » Thu Apr 26, 2007 5:09 pm

Some already know from being there that John David Call, the man who lit the fire in '69, has once again come to the rescue , taking over on pedal steel for Fats Kaplin the last several shows. Fats has a previous engagement , playing with his old friends that's he's recorded with, Kevin Welch and Kieran Kane in Austrailia. Maybe they should look up Rick Plant while there. Rick, who filled in for Mike Reilly numerous times last year, relocated to Austrialia as he and his wife pursue their musical interests.

While Mike continues to work hard during his recovery process, it appears that Jeff "Stick" Davis may fill in on bass, he's already done a show. Jeff's a founding member of the Amazing Rhythm Aces and has played with such standouts as BB King, Al Green, Ron Wood, John Mayall, Albert Lee, Burrito Deluxe over the years. Last year Poco's great bassist, Jack Sundrud, played a number of doubleheaders with PPL/Poco. Once again, if we get guys like this during Mike's absence, lucky doesn't decribe it. Naturally, we all await the return of the big guy, let's keep the thoughts and prayers going, prairie dogs.

Oh, and then there's this guy named Fuller. Bob Ringe, PPL's producer for their first two LP's, stated in a 1975 interview that Craig would release a solo CD. What "Little Bobby Ring" left out was that it wouldn't be for 32 years.

Craig is busy working on it and he's hopeful it will be out this summer. Again, hopeful is the key word. It does look very promising though, that 2007 will be the year. In addition, it's possible Craig may open open for Little Feat on some dates this summer, doing an acoustic set. It's being looked at, and obviously it will not interfere with any PPL dates.

As noted on another thread , the DVD of the Nashville Show is a work in progress, legal requirements being fulfilled, editing etc. There is no set release date yet, but certainly it's something we will keep track of, as this has generated a high level of excitement among prairiedogs!!!

Please continue to check the tour page as a few new dates have been added over recent weeks and more possiblities are still being looked at.

All the best,
Tom
