Kansas City Southern

E____________E_______________E______________E
When I was a young man, and the evening sun went down
E________________E_________________E__________E
I'd walk along those railroad tracks and I'd listen for that sound
A__________A________A___A___________________E____E
Kansas City Southern........... man that's a lonesome sound!
_______B_______________B_______________A
Well I'd sit and watch those trains go by and I'd wish
A______________E______E______E______E
that I was onward bound.

_______E_______________E__________E___________E
Well I dream about the big cities and the pleasures that I keep
E____________E____________E__________E
Along about 12:30 through the phases of my sleep I hear that
A__________A______A___A___________________E_____E
Kansas City Southern........ man that's a lonesome sound!
______B_______________B______________A
Well I sit and watch those trains go by and I wish
A______________E______E_____E_____E
that I was onward bound.

_________E_____E__________C#m_____C#m
Won't you blow........... whistle blow!
_________E_____E__________C#m_____C#m____E___E___E___E
Won't you blow........... whistle blow!

E______________E______E_____________E
I been a couple-a places... I seen a lotta things...
E______________E_____________E_____________E
Whenever I reach back in time my memory starts to ring I hear that

A___________A______A____A___________________E_____E
Kansas City Southern........... man that's a lonesome sound
_____B_______________B_______________A
Now I sit and watch those trains go by and I wish
A_________________E_____E_____E_____E
that I was homeward bound.

_________E_____E__________C#m______C#m
Won't you blow........... whistle blow!
_________E_____E__________C#m______C#m
Won't you blow........... whistle blow!
_________E_____E__________C#m______C#m
Won't you blow...
_________E_____E__________C#m______C#m
Won't you blow...

(Insert Mike Reilly yodeling, and continue into fade out)

Thanks!!
That's one of my favorite songs, I used to live in Louisiana in a town bisected by the main north south KCS line, in fact I rented a house so close to the tracks we used to joke we couldn't paint that side of the house because the trains would rub the new coat off.

Now back to strumming and yodelling... My, that's a lonesome sound!

Dog,

I've been away, and you've been BUSY!!!

Great, great work. I've got a lot of songs to learn... I haven't read through all the posts, so pardon me if somebody has already suggested it, but have you considered posting these on one of the online OLGA-type sites?

I use "Chordie" mostly, but their PPL content leaves much to be desired.

Thanks, you don't know what a precious gift these transcriptions have been for me-

humbly,

Jay in B'ham

(prolly won't make Wildwood this year, but most likely will be at the Birchmere in Alexandria VA in June) I love having a cousin in DC!!

Hi Jay,

Welcome back. Thanks very much for the kind words. I don't know much about those sites. If I'm looking for a song myself, it's usually just for the lyrics, so I'll do a google search specifically for that.

I'm a little hesitant to post the songs around since I don't really know how the band members feel about it, with copyrights and all that. Although I guess it could be a good thing to keep up interest in the group. If people go searching for songs and come up empty, they'll possibly move on to something else, some other artist.

Posting them here is kind-of my "Ode to Pure Prairie League". I figured since I've gotten so much enjoyment and inspiration from thier music, that I could give something back of myself. I don't know what kinds of chords and lyrics are on other artists' sites, but I think that PPL is underappreciated, and they deserve decent charts on thier site that could give people a chance to appreciate them more.

After all, I'm a prairie dog, dang it!

All the best,
Dog
