Anyone know Angel?!?

I tried to figure it out and struck out. I think there is some weird tuning going on. Plus several guitars. But I really want to paly and sing this song. Thanks!!!!

There's no need to fear, Underdog is here. Well, LIDog anyway. I'm like the poor man's Underdog.

This was the best I could do in a pinch. It was nice listening to this beautiful song again.

The guitar is tuned down a half step, so even though you're playing an A chord, it's really an Ab. By the way, the same tuning is used on "Call Me Tell Me". I don't see any way around it. If you want to play along with the record, you're going to have to change your tuning.

First, some attempts at describing chords. I'm not a music teacher, so I don't necessarily know the correct names for them.

Most of the "A" chords are played with the same fingering you would use for an Fmaj7. In this case, 1st finger is on 2nd string-5th fret, 2nd finger is on 3rd string-6th fret, and 3rd finger is on the 4th string-7th fret. The 1st string remains open. Use this same fingering for the "G/A" at the end of the song, with your 1st finger in the 3rd fret, etc.

For the "B/A" I am playing a normal open A chord, but with fingers in the 4th fret instead of the 2nd. Just go light on that open 1st string. Likewise, the "Bm/A" is a normal open Am fingering, but with first finger in the 3rd fret.

So if you got all that, I think this will get you going!

Great job Dog on a Craig classic that first appeared on The Ultimate Prophecy , JD Blackfoot , an LP that Craig joined in progress and contributed 5 songs, the first side of the LP.

It looks like this was no picnic figuring out, quite a few tips are given !

I'm sure Patrick is quite grateful for your efforts and incredibly quick response !

Take care, Tom

Thanks for the effort, but I'm afraid the tuning is a little more complicated than just lowering everything 1/2 step.
You can hear in the last chord the double effect of two strings being played together which are the exact same note.
This only occurs when alternate tuning is present.
According to "The Complete Book of Alternate Tunings" by Mark Hanson states on page 109 that the tuning is "Open G Capo 1"
I perform Joni Mitchell songs in alternate tunings, but I am having a hard time with this one.
BTW, Open G tuning is: DGDGBD If you could figure this out, that would be super.
Best regards,

Message from Craig: " Hi Doug, That was a long time ago, but I can tell you that it was in standard tuning; maybe in the key of A. Best Wishes."

I also was wondering about how to play the song, so I took the liberty of asking Craig about it on his FB page. This was the reply he gave me. All I can say is "Thanks Craig!" Very nice of him to take the time and shed a little light on the subject for us.

A thought... PPL is performing Angel in concert these days... perhaps there is video out there of Donnie Lee Clark playing and singing the song. Something to look into...

More from Craig on FB: He says "Try the D & G strings up around 6th or 7th fret for the intro lick."
